The statement made by former Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila that former State Intelligence Service Chief Suresh Salle, held by the Criminal Investigation Department on suspicion over the Easter attacks, is being treated inhumanely inside prison is completely untrue.
A special statement issued by the Police Media Division yesterday (06) noted that Sri Lanka Police did not assault or inhumanely treat this suspect, contrary to the statements made to the media by Udaya Gammanpila. The police pointed out that he is being dealt with in the same lawful manner as any ordinary suspect, and received no special treatment or neglect. As these facts are currently being examined before court, the Police Media Division further requested the media and the public to refrain from releasing such false statements to the media outside of court, and noted the importance of acting with more restraint when presenting such sensitive matters.
